"My parents have had an
old batch of 8mm silent movie film of my family that
have gone unwatched for about 20 years due to a broken
film projector. My siblings and I decided several
years ago that it would be a good idea to convert those
films to VHS. Thanks to some serious
procrastination, we never did that...Several months ago,
I started doing some internet research to learn about
the process and the associated costs...There are
"transfer mills" that perform this on a mass basis...but
the mills don't give these family heirlooms a whole lot
of TLC. They also don't do a lot except give you a
DVD with a continuous stream of film (no menus, no
scene/chapter selection, picture brightness adjustment,
etc.) I found a couple of smaller...custom
shops...which will add these custom features...I was
quoted in excess of $1,000. Boy, that was going to
be a pretty tough nut to swallow, so once again, I sat
on the project for a few months. Lo and behold,
Charlie...told me recently that he was having some video
transferred by Connect Pros Inc. I asked Charlie
for their phone number. THIS WAS IT!! This
was what I was looking for...and just in time to make
this a gift to our parents for Christmas. I had a
great phone conversation with Scott, then met him in
person. I felt immediately comfortable with him
and the amount of care he would take in converting these
precious family moments to DVD. I handed over the
films on the spot. Scott listened to what I was
looking for and provided excellent feedback. He
would also include many of what other providers consider
frills/extras at about ONE-THIRD the price!...I picked
up my DVD's on Monday. My wife and I decided to
watch a few minutes, just to check out the functionality
and quality. We ended up watching all
two-and-a-half plus hours!! While the old film
imperfections were still there (A bonus to me because it
felt like you were still watching old home movies!),
Scott was able to restore brightness and residual
clarity. The DVD menu was fully functional and
nicely arranged. The best part is that it's all
digitally-stored. The films can be recalled,
manipulated, and stored on media that takes up very
little space. And, a nice cover with some still
shots to boot. I can't express how satisfied I am
with the final product and how easy Scott was to work
with. My parents are going to be speechless...and
very happy. I may be in my forties, but I can't
