Frequently Asked Questions – FILM TO DVD
Do
you want to preserve your family history and memories
from old 8mm, Super8, 16mm films and camcorder or VHS
tapes?
Has the old projector used to show the old films broken,
been damaged in a flood, bulb burned out or is it just
too much of a pain to try to get the old relic running
each time you want to view the old films?
Do
you want to create a memorable video for a family
reunion or special event?
Are you the family archivist who cares deeply about
preserving your family's history from photos and films
in scrapbooks and video?
Here are some of the frequently asked questions
regarding the process:
-
Q. Why should
I bother to transfer/convert these old films to DVD?
-
A. Old
film will deteriorate over time and the images will
fade and be lost forever. Many times, old
films were stored in attics, basements or garages
and the temperature and humidity destroyed the film
and made it impossible to recover those family
memories.
-
Q. How many
feet of film or rolls of film can be combined on one
DVD?
-
A. The
old 3" 8mm film spools typically contain 50 feet of
film. Connect Pros Inc. can save 35 spools of the 3"
film spools on to one DVD. Some of the smaller
spools may have been spliced together and combined
to form 5" or 7" spools. Please contact us for
a cost estimate.
-
Q. What
happens to the films when I give them to Connect
Pros Inc.?
-
A.
Special care is taken to gently handle and project
each film spool on state-of-the-art video projection
transfer equipment. Digital copies are then
created and transferred to DVD for viewing and
enjoyment by family and friends. Your films
will be returned to you in the same condition you
originally gave them to us.
-
Q.
What do I need to do
once I've collected the films I want to preserve in
the video? -
A. You should
sort the film into groups by either chronological
order or some themed order (i.e., Christmas
Celebrations, 1940's, etc.) and number the boxes or
reels as they will appear in the video. Many film
transfers we've created tell a story of a person or
family over the years. Most often the case or
box contains some description of the contents or
approximate date the film was shot.
-
Q.
How many camcorder
tapes can be combined on to one DVD? -
A. Up to two
hours of video.
-
Q.
How long will the
production process take? -
A. The average
order is completed within 7 to 10 days. Please
contact us in advance of your scheduled event or
deadline to ensure all questions can be addressed
and delivery/pick-up completed well in advance of
the due date.
-
Q.;
Do I need to meet
with Connect Pros Inc. in person to complete the
order? -
A. No. We
have created video products for customers handling
the whole process via phone and mail.
Additional time will be required for Priority U.S.
Postal Service mail or courier delivery of photos
and the finished product.
-
Q.
Can I include an
image and title on the DVD and case? -
A. Yes.
We will professionally decorate the disc and case
incorporating images from the films and tapes to
further enhance the value of this special gift.
-
Q.
Should I transfer copies of my VHS and camcorder tapes to DVD? -
A. We recommend
"yes" for all milestone family events (weddings,
birthdays, graduations, etc.). Most VHS and
camcorder tape
lasts between 8 and 10 years. After this time,
and depending upon how and where the tape is stored,
it will deteriorate and the images will distort
or be lost forever.
Connect Pros Inc. looks forward to exceeding your
expectations.
